What size dog fits in the pouch?
Dogs up to about 15 lb (7 kg) — Chihuahuas, Yorkies, Pomeranians, Maltese, mini Dachshunds, and small Frenchie and Shih Tzu mixes. The pouch opening is 20 cm across and the pouch is 30 cm deep. If your dog is on the edge, size the hoodie up rather than down.

The pouch is a supported pocket against your chest with a reinforced ring at the opening, and it is open at the top — nothing zips or closes over your dog. Keep one hand near them until they settle, and never run, cycle or climb stairs two at a time with a dog in the pouch. Not for puppies under 12 weeks.

Most dogs who like being held settle in within a few tries. Start at home: put it on, sit down, lift them in with a treat and keep the first go short. Because the top is open they can climb out whenever they want, which is exactly why they relax in it.

For short carries — stairs, busy pavements, the café queue, the vet waiting room, the last stretch home when little legs give up — yes. It is not a harness and has no leash point, so keep their own harness on for anything longer.

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and hang dry. Do not tumble dry or iron the sherpa. A lint roller lifts fur out of the fleece between washes, and the pouch liner comes out separately.

A heavyweight polyester sherpa fleece, around 400 gsm, with a soft brushed inside, ribbed cuffs and hem, a drawstring hood and a zip chest pocket. Cocoa brown is the launch colour — join the list at the bottom of the page for new colours.
